PLANNING AHEAD
Things to take into account in
your planning: Are you tiling indoors or outdoors?
Indoors:
- Is it a 'wet' area such as
a bathroom or a kitchen, or a 'dry' area such
as a passageway or living room?
- Is it a high traffic area or
will it have to take a load?
- Although many of our tiles
are general-purpose tiles, many of these, depending
on the finish or glaze, will work better in
specific conditions of wetness, dryness or load
carrying potential. Remember that wet area tiles
require special adhesives and grouting, and
drainage needs to be taken into account particularly
in bathrooms.
Outdoors:
- Is it dry or partially dry,
such as a garage and verandah, or wet like an
open patio, atrium, path or driveway?
- What sort of load is it expected
to carry - foot traffic and/or cars?
- What drainage will be required?
(Remember, the larger the surface area the greater
the resultant run-off that will need to be catered
for. Good drainage is essential for all areas
exposed to rain with planning for this done
well in advance. The type of substrate also
needs to be taken into account.)
